CLairE Kirby, Fitness Instructor, Founder:
When Claire started teaching English in Hamtramck seven years ago she included a 10 minute exercise break into her classes. Her students loved it and she began to see a need for a safe place to exercise for the women of Hamtramck. In 2016, she got together with a few of her friends and decided to open Sisterhood Fitness. Claire has been volunteering many hours a week since it’s opening, managing volunteers and teaching classes. Claire is energetic, creative, and all around fun. She keeps our members motivated, exercising along side of them and providing specialized work-out routines that suit their needs.
Kathy Schneider, Fitness Coordinator:
Health and Fitness has always been a passion and joy for Kathy. As a Registered Nurse, she knows the importance of being active and loves to encourage others in reaching their fitness goals. Group exercise classes are one way for our community here at Sisterhood to get healthy TOGETHER. Kathy helps to coordinate volunteer instructors and fun, challenging, and diverse exercise classes. Come check out one of our many classes we offer, I’m sure you will love it!
Katie Handy, Program Director:
Movement has always been a part of Katie’s life, but 9 years ago she joined a ladies’ fitness center. The care and encouragement given to each woman changed her mind about fitness and allowed her to see health and wellness as vital parts of a community. After moving to Hamtramck in 2017 Katie visited Sisterhood Fitness. The first time she stepped into the studio she knew this was a place where encouragement of women, positive relationships, and women’s health were core values. It felt like she was home again. Since volunteering with Sisterhood for 2 years, it has felt more like home and the ladies have become like family. She is excited to join Sisterhood Fitness as the new director. There are greater days ahead as we journey towards health and wholeness.
