We couldn’t keep Sisterhood Fitness running without the generous support of our volunteers and financial sponsors. Thank you!
In October 2016, Sisterhood Fitness officially opened to the community! We are the only local fitness and community center exclusively for women in Hamtramck. Sisterhood Fitness is a project of One New Humanity CDC, a 501c3 non-profit.
Since then we have served hundreds of women in our space in Hamtramck. One faithful member lost 40lbs coming every day the gym was open. Run predominately by volunteers, we are open five days a week and offer a variety of exercise classes and one-on-one instruction. Sisterhood Fitness also provides space for educational courses such as ESL and Citizenship.
Women pay $30 a month to access the gym, but this only helps subsidize our operating costs. We need to fundraise to cover the remainder of our operating costs. Your generous donations help us pay the bills, buy better gym equipment, make space improvements, as well as pay a director to oversee operations.
Due to the Governors Executive Orders related to COVID-19 we are currently unable to open for in-person classes. In the meantime we are offering a free walking club twice a week as well as online workout videos. Please contact us for more information.

“I feel comfortable here. Exercising together with people makes me feel powerful and happy. I don’t get out of my house a lot, so this is such a good thing. There is no other women’s gym for women from Yemen who mostly speak Arabic and need privacy. You’ve helped me and the women here so much! I’m so grateful.”
“I come to be motivated for my diabetes, my cholesterol and to feel light and not “blah” in the morning. I feel bad until I come here.“
“I used to work out at home for like 4 years, I got really bored and unmotivated. I started coming to Sisterhood Fitness to get motivated. My endurance is building up. I met new friends. We’re like family. We all get along.“
